How to Get from Murcia Corvera Airport to Mazarrón | A Local’s Guide (2026)
How to Get from Murcia Corvera Airport to Mazarrón | A Local's Guide (2026)
We get asked this at least three or four times a week usually by someone who’s just booked flights into Murcia and realised they have no idea how they’re actually getting to Mazarrón once they land. I’m Bekki. I run Bolnuevo Cars with my mum Jill and my dad Kevin. We’ve been based in Bolnuevo, five minutes from Mazarrón town, for over 20 years. In that time we’ve helped hundreds of visitors sort their transport after landing at Corvera and we’ve heard every version of this question. This guide covers every option honestly taxi, bus, and rental car with real costs, real timings, and the kind of advice we’d give a friend landing for the first time.
Where Is Murcia Corvera Airport?
Murcia Corvera Airport (RMU) officially the Región de Murcia International Airport opened in January 2019. If you flew into Murcia for years and remember it being near the coast at San Javier, that airport is now a military base. Corvera is your airport now. It sits about 26 km southeast of Murcia city, just off the RM-16 motorway. Modern terminal, easy to navigate, signs in English, German and Spanish. You’re usually through arrivals within 20 to 30 minutes of landing quicker than most UK airports of a similar size. One thing worth knowing: the terminal has Wi-Fi throughout so you can WhatsApp us the moment you land if you haven’t already sorted your car.
How Far Is Mazarrón from Corvera?
This is where people are often surprised. Corvera isn’t right on the coast it’s inland, and the drive to Mazarrón is longer than most people expect when they first look at a map.
Here’s the honest picture:
The route is mostly motorway RM-16 connecting to the A-30
so it’s straightforward driving even if you’ve never done it before. No complicated junctions, well signed throughout. In July and August add 10 to 15 minutes for weekend traffic, especially Friday afternoons when everyone from Murcia city heads to the coast at the same time.
Taxi from Corvera Airport
There’s an official taxi rank just outside the arrivals exit. Easy to find, all licensed, all metered. Here’s the honest maths though. A taxi from Corvera to Mazarrón runs around €40 to €55. To Bolnuevo, closer to €50 to €65. For a family of four with suitcases, that’s already more than two days of car hire with us and you still don’t have a car when you arrive. Most visitors staying in Mazarrón, Puerto de Mazarrón, Bolnuevo or Camposol need a car for the week anyway. The mazarron beaches are spread out, the villages aren’t walkable from each other, and public transport in this part of the coast is limited. So you end up paying for a taxi from the airport and then renting a car on top. What most of our customers do instead is skip the airport taxi entirely. They arrange delivery with us in advance, land at Corvera, get a short local taxi to their villa for a fraction of the cost, and wake up the next morning with a clean rental car already parked outside. A small hatchback from €17/day. A 7-seater SUV perfect for families with luggage and beach gear from just €23/day. Nothing added at collection, no surprises. If you’re only here for one or two nights and genuinely don’t need a car taxi makes sense. For everyone else, the numbers don’t really add up.
Bus from Corvera Airport
Inter bus runs the main public bus service from Corvera. Routes connect to Murcia city, Cartagena, and Puerto de Mazarrón. Sounds straightforward. In practice it’s a bit more complicated. Buses don’t run that frequently especially outside peak season. Evening arrivals often find there’s nothing going their way until the following morning. And if you’re travelling with kids, suitcases, and a car seat standing at a bus stop outside an airport at 10pm after a delayed Ryanair flight is nobody’s idea of a holiday start. For solo travellers or couples travelling light and heading into Murcia city or Cartagena the bus is perfectly fine and genuinely cheap. Check current timetables at interbus.es before you travel because schedules change seasonally. For families heading directly to Mazarrón, Bolnuevo, Puerto de Mazarrón or Camposol the bus rarely works out as the easy option people hope it will be. Most of our customers who try it once tell us the same thing: should have just sorted the car in advance.
Pre-Book a Local Rental Car
This is what most people heading to Mazarrón end up doing and if we’re honest, it’s what we’d recommend to almost anyone staying more than a couple of nights. There are rental desks inside Corvera terminal. We won’t go into detail about those but if you’ve ever stood at an airport rental counter at 11pm after a delayed flight while someone tries to sell you insurance you didn’t budget for, you’ll know why a lot of our customers tried that route once and didn’t go back. Here’s what most of our regulars do instead. They WhatsApp us before they even board sometimes from the departure lounge at Gatwick or Manchester. We confirm the car, agree the price, and that’s it. They land at Corvera, grab a short local taxi to their villa or apartment which costs a fraction of the full airport-to-coast fare and either collect their car from our Bolnuevo office the next morning or wake up to find it already parked outside their accommodation. No queue. No credit card hold. No one trying to upgrade them at the counter. Just a clean, well-maintained car at the price we agreed from €17/day for a small hatchback, or €23/day for our 7-seater SUV if you’re travelling with the whole family and need the boot space. We’re Bolnuevo Cars Bekki, Jill and Kevin. We’ve been based here in Bolnuevo for over 20 years. Our office is 25 minutes from Corvera Airport and we cover the entire Mazarrón coast Bolnuevo, Mazarrón town, Puerto de Mazarrón, Camposol, Isla Plana, La Azohía. If you’re not sure whether we reach you, just ask we almost certainly do. WhatsApp us on +34 600 00 72 83 and we’ll sort everything before you land.
The Drive from Corvera to Mazarrón
Leave Corvera on the RM-16 heading southwest, merge onto the A-30 and follow signs for Cartagena then Mazarrón. Straightforward motorway driving the whole way even first timers find it easy. First timers are usually caught off guard by the landscape. This part of Murcia is drier and more dramatic than people expect ochre hills, almond groves near Totana and Alhama de Murcia, then the road drops and the Mediterranean appears. Still gets us every time after 20 years. A few things we tell every customer: Fill up at the Repsol station just off the RM-16 before leaving the airport area petrol is cheaper inland and we’ve been stopping there for years. If you’re heading to Bolnuevo, La Azohía, Calnegre or Isla Plana roads narrow quickly. Our Kia Picanto handles the tight bends perfectly. The MG ZS 7-seater is great for families but take the narrow sections slowly. Parking in Puerto de Mazarrón fills up fast in July and August arrive before 10am or after 7pm. Between those hours, Bolnuevo beach is just as good and far less stressful for parking. The drive takes us about 45 minutes on a normal day. Budget an hour on a busy August Saturday.
Arriving Late at Night?
Corvera handles late evening flights especially in summer. Ryanair and EasyJet regularly land after 10pm. Taxi rank is usually available but quieter late at night. The terminal itself closes around 10:30pm so don’t hang around too long if your bags are delayed. Our advice for late arrivals: don’t try to sort everything on the night. WhatsApp us your flight number in advance we track delays automatically and we’ll have your car ready at your accommodation first thing the following morning. We’ve had customers message us from the runway before. The car was outside their villa before they’d finished unpacking. No extra charge for next morning delivery. Just tell us where you’re staying and we’ll sort the rest.
